Sitting at the Keynote speaker at T+L, just suggested going to hulu.com - ??
Next I'm Going to go to an E-Discovery session. Since installing the Privacy Networks box we've had quite a few discussions about retention of e-documents for both staff and students.

I'm sitting here getting ready for the keynote speaker and the first session. Trying to plan my conference and trying to come with the right lens to view the sessions I'll go to.

Getting Ready for the Kids
We are working furiously to prepare for our (major) rollouts for the beginning of the year. We have put in BLANKET wireless coverage, upgraded our Groupwise Server and are in process of converting all student mail to GMAIL. Whew.

Privacy Networks - More!
PN vaulting feature was having a trouble with the IMAP for groupwise. IMAP was crashing the POA when it had trouble vaulting a user with weirdness in the mailbox. PN has been really good so far troubleshooting this.

NECC 2008 in San Antonio
I'm going be attending the NECC Conference in San Antonio next week and am picking the events I'll try to attend. It sounds like a huge conference and I want to give myself a bit of focus so I can get some good info without being drowned. Any of you have been- what should I look for?

Daily notes
I'm upgrade our BlackBerry Enterprise Server to version 4.1.4 today. Should allow some extra features like "push" software updates and firmware updates right to the phone. Gotta plan to upgrade the phone firmware too.

Please see this letter on zdnet.com
Open letter to a school committee member by ZDNet's Christopher Dawson -- A bit of background before I pass on this letter that I wrote to a member of our school committee this morning…Our district has been without a technology-director type for many years now. While we have good staff handling individual schools, coordinating and managing the use of technology district-wide has fallen to superintendents, most [...]

Privacy Networks Installing - Part 2 - First Glitch

Privacy Networks Installing
I have a ginormous server with loads of space open. I have my Privacy Network's disk and have loaded it it up. Now just waiting for the install guides to finish linking the PN box to our Groupwise setup as a trusted APP. My impression is it will be similar to linking our BES server (Blackberry Enterprise Server) with Groupwise. So far the setup is pretty smooth.

Cleaning House
IT is the end of the school year and I'm cleaning out Home drives. What do you use for this?
I haven't ever found a single program I liked completely that also played well with our Novell volumes. First try: Disk Space Usage 2.5 from Simonsware.

Google Apps for Educators
I'm at the first step of planning a transition from our existing student email system, Netmail to Google Mail (for educators version). I have three schools to handle, three separate domains and about 2K kids per domain.
Here are my main concerns
Student safety
Account Manageability
Integration with our new website (coming very soon).
Also, we have to determine our responsibilities for archiving and retrieval of student messages.
Any ideas?
ps- am now testing with a fake domain- can I disable chat and address book search in Gmail?

Blackberry Free Time
Not a free Blackberry, but follow me: I'm testing a Blackberry 8130 Pearl with the WiFi setup. Is it true that, while using our private Wireless network and the phone goes into the UMA mode, are calls free? Do we not get charged for the minutes while using the phone over our internal WLAN? I can't wait to see the bill.
First Post!
So. I'm a Network Manager for Maine Township High School District 207. I'm starting this blog to begin talking about how me and my network team are implementing technology for our schools. First Post.
