Google Apps for Educators

I'm at the first step of planning a transition from our existing student email system, Netmail to Google Mail (for educators version). I have three schools to handle, three separate domains and about 2K kids per domain.

Here are my main concerns

Student safety
Account Manageability
Integration with our new website (coming very soon).

Also, we have to determine our responsibilities for archiving and retrieval of student messages.
Any ideas?

ps- am now testing with a fake domain- can I disable chat and address book search in Gmail?

Hola David- Saw your blogspot acct today w ur email for district staff. I teach Spanish/Chinese @ South. I just realized today Gmail has an organization account too. Trying out new options for a few of the Chinese teacher organizations. What are the differences (pro/con) of the different Gmail accounts, also Gmail vs Novell acct?

Thanks for the comment! There are two main things that I am judging with Gmail and Gmail vs Novell- for students it is mainly cost and portability. Google isn't charging for the Education version and the students can put ALOT of data in GMAIL and associated Google Apps.

For staff, though, there is some legacy functionality in Groupwise that Google doesn't have (yet): group scheduling, imbedded directory searching, etc. I would guess Google is working on all these issues.
